Angler Armor. What's it all about?

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

From our humble beginnings to how it all works. A layered approach to monitoring that is simple, easy and 24/7

IN THE BEGINNING

Angler Armor was born 3 years ago on a desktop right here in Wisconsin. We realized that the boat alarms on the market were either designed for yachts, with a price tag to match or they looked like they would break as soon as they got near the water. So we set out to create an alarm system that would specifically meet the needs of serious fishermen everywhere. Your boat and gear represent a significant investment, and until now that investment has been vulnerable to anyone with a trailer hitch and bolt cutters. With Angler Armor we aim to turn the tables and give you everything you need in one simple package to... Hook a Crook!

Everything you need...

Everything you need to start protecting your possessions is included in the alarm system. The system consists of the central processor, 5 locker sensors, a pre-wired audible siren and a power supply for shore power monitoring.

EARLY DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Before work could begin on a prototype, we talked with fishermen from around the country to ask them what features they most wanted in a boat alarm. After gathering that input, we added our own blend of proprietary ideas to round out the design. It was decided to include a layered approach to monitoring your boat so that if one trigger was avoided, the next one would stop the bad guys in their tracks. The design also needed to include easy installation, no complicated wiring schemes, long battery life and no pairing or programming of any kind.

HOW DOES IT ALL WORK?

There are two main components in the alarm system. The central processor and the locker sensor nodes. The locker sensor nodes are of a one piece design and are mounted on the locker lids to provide notification of unauthorized entry. Those nodes broadcast their status to the central processor via BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy©). This allows for a high transmission rate that is both secure and provides long life battery performance. The central processor in turn, interprets the information from the rod locker sensors, the GPS module, vibration sensor and vehicle start battery and sends it to the cloud via a secure cellular connection. That is all sent from the cloud to your smart device to give you real time tracking and notifications.

From prototype to production...

It was decided to include a layered approach to monitoring your boat so that if one trigger was avoided, the next one would stop the bad guys in their tracks. WHAT IS INCLUDED?

Everything you need to start protecting your possessions is included in the alarm system. The system consists of the central processor, 5 locker sensors, a pre-wired audible siren and a power supply for shore power monitoring. When your alarm system arrives, you simply need to connect the black wire to the negative terminal of the start battery and the red wire to the positive terminal. While the central processor powers up and begins the process of connecting to the cellular provider and obtaining a GPS fix, you can download the app to your smart device. Once you have done that, create your account by adding a username and password. Next, simply scan the QR code that was emailed to you and the app will be provisioned to communicate with your alarm. Finally, pull the plastic tabs from the rod locker sensors to allow them to power up and connect to the central processor.

THAT"S IT!

By now you should have a pretty good understanding of how Angler Armor came to be, how we decided what features to include, how it works to protect your boat and how to install the system. We like to say, Simple. Easy. 24/7 Angler Armor will watch your things when you cannot. We never sleep so that you can. For more information you can see the quick start guide and complete instructions on our website as well as a complete line up of videos.

NEXT TIME

Join us next time where we will provide an overview and features of the included app. Until next time, #hookacrook
